Election Day in District 21: Our Voices, Our Power

June 24, 20252 min read

Today is Election Day, and I’m filled with gratitude and hope. My name is Yanna Henriquez, and I’m running to represent Corona, East Elmhurst, Jackson Heights, and Lefrak City on the New York City Council. Today isn’t just about casting a ballot—it’s about honoring our voices and our power as a community.

Throughout this campaign, I’ve met so many neighbors who care deeply about our schools, our housing, our safety, and the environment. Today, we stand together at the polls to make sure our stories are heard. Thank you to everyone who knocked on doors, made calls, and inspired others to get involved.

But today’s heat is real—please be careful. Heat advisories are in effect across the city. Cooling centers are open in our neighborhoods, including libraries, senior centers, and community facilities. Outdoor misting stations are also available near polling locations like Travers Park and Corona Plaza.

Some nearby cooling spots include:

  • Corona Library (38‑23 104 St, open 12 PM–5 PM)

  • Elmhurst Library

  • Jackson Heights Library (35‑51 81 St)

  • Jackson Heights Senior Center

  • Elmcor Youth Center

  • Lefrak City Library

  • Queens Community House

  • Elmhurst Hospital Public Lobby

  • Corona Older Adult Center

Bring water, wear light and breathable clothing, and take breaks if needed. If you feel dizzy, overheated, or unwell, call 911 immediately.

Many of you will vote before or after work—and with the heat, it’s essential to look out for each other. Check on your neighbors, especially our seniors and folks with disabilities. We are stronger when we care for one another.

You can find your polling location and voting hours at: findmypollsite.vote.nyc
Polls are open until 9 PM—so bring a friend, bring your pride, and bring your power.

I’m running to fight for affordable housing, safer streets, new schools, youth programs, clean green spaces, and union jobs. If you’d like to learn more about my vision for District 21, visit YannaForNYC.net.

Let’s make history together. Stay safe, stay hydrated, and let’s vote for a brighter, more just future—together.
