A Historic Endorsement: Congressman Adriano Espaillat Backs Yanna Henriquez for NYC Council

June 17, 20252 min read

Queens is a borough rich in culture, languages, and identities. Today, I’m proud to announce a historic moment in our campaign — I’ve been officially endorsed by Congressman Adriano Espaillat, the first Dominican elected to the United States Congress. As a Dominican-American woman running to represent District 21 (Corona, East Elmhurst, Jackson Heights & Lefrak City), this endorsement is not just symbolic; it’s a powerful reminder of how far our community has come and how far we’re prepared to go together.

Congressman Espaillat and I share similar roots — born in the Dominican Republic and raised in the heart of immigrant communities. We both know the struggles of working-class families and understand the importance of fighting for fair representation, dignified housing, safer neighborhoods, and strong schools. His endorsement is a reflection of the trust and confidence that seasoned leaders have placed in our movement for change in Queens.

If elected, I will be the only Dominican elected official serving in Queens County. That responsibility means more than holding a title — it means becoming a voice for the voiceless, a fighter for equity, and a fierce advocate for immigrant rights and underserved communities. With Adriano as an ally, I am ready to lead with heart, integrity, and purpose.

Adriano Espaillat’s leadership has long uplifted working families across New York. His support of our campaign is a signal to voters that this is more than a political effort — it’s a people-powered movement grounded in community, compassion, and action. Together, we will:

  • Push for deeply affordable housing to address the housing crisis and displacement.

  • Invest in school construction and classroom expansion to end overcrowding.

  • Strengthen public safety without criminalizing Black and Brown communities.

  • Champion immigrant rights and create safer pathways for economic stability.

  • Prioritize environmental justice, green infrastructure, and cleaner streets for all.

  • Empower small businesses and protect the economic heart of our neighborhoods.

We are running to represent every corner of this district — from Jackson Heights to Lefrak City — and we carry with us the stories, dreams, and resilience of every family we've met along the way.

Congressman Espaillat’s endorsement is also deeply personal. As someone I’ve long admired, it is an honor to now stand shoulder to shoulder with him in this fight for a more inclusive and just New York City. I’m proud to follow in his footsteps — not only as a Dominican leader in government but as a public servant who centers the needs of the people every single day.

This campaign is about building a stronger, safer, and more inclusive Queens — one where every voice is heard and every family has a path to thrive. But we cannot do this alone.

🗳️ Early voting is already underway and continues through June 22nd.
📅 Election Day is Tuesday, June 24th.

Let’s make history — together. Volunteer, vote, and help us keep up this momentum by visiting YannaForNYC.net.
