I’m Yanna Henriquez, and I’m running for New York City Council in District 21 to represent Corona, Jackson Heights, East Elmhurst, and Lefrak City—communities that have long been powered by working families, immigrant labor, and the strength of union solidarity. Today, I am incredibly proud to announce that our campaign has been endorsed by the Mason Tenders District Council of Greater New York and Long Island and Laborers Rising LiUNA! These unions represent the workers who build and protect our city every day with integrity, skill, and strength.
Their trust means the world to me. I have spent more than 32 years working within this district—fighting for tenants' rights, advocating for affordable housing, defending immigrants, and organizing youth and families. This campaign was built to reflect the voices and values of working people, and these endorsements are proof that labor believes in our message of fairness, dignity, and opportunity.
Our growing coalition of labor support includes some of the most respected and powerful unions in New York: the United Federation of Teachers (UFT), Hotel Trades Council (HTC), Local 372, UNITE HERE Local 100, and the Communications Workers of America (CWA). I am also backed by advocacy groups such as the Statewide Association of Minority Businesses, Solidarity PAC, Resilience PAC, NYLCV, Voters for Animal Rights, Lights Out Coalition, League of Humane Voters, and NYCLASS.
This movement is people-powered. We are not here to play politics as usual. We are here to win real results for working families.
Union jobs are not just employment opportunities—they're pathways to the middle class, to homeownership, to safer neighborhoods, and to generational wealth. As your City Councilmember, I will champion policies that protect and expand union access:
Enforcing prevailing wage laws
Prioritizing local hiring and career pipelines for our youth
Ensuring city contracts include Project Labor Agreements
Funding workforce training and apprenticeships
Building affordable housing with union labor
Advocating for environmental justice jobs
I will ensure city resources are spent wisely—on community voices and union labor, not private interests. I believe deeply in the dignity of work, and I will never stop fighting for those who power our economy with their hands, hearts, and hustle.
These endorsements tell a powerful story. Labor organizations believe in our campaign because they know I’ve been in this fight long before election season. They know I’ve shown up for tenants, families, and frontline workers. They know I have the vision and grit to lead from day one.
We are also backed by respected elected leaders who share our values: Congressman Gregory Meeks, Congressman Adriano Espaillat, Assemblymember Amanda Septimo, Councilmember Francisco Moya, and District Leaders Somnath Ghimire and Preston Baker. Their support amplifies our call for change and reminds voters that experienced, principled leadership stands behind our campaign.
Now we need you. Early voting runs through June 22, and Election Day is Tuesday, June 24. You can find your polling place at findmypollsite.vote.nyc. Every vote matters.
We are knocking on doors, making calls, and spreading our message across District 21. If you believe in safer streets, better jobs, affordable housing, green infrastructure, and community-first leadership, we need you on this team.
